Reddit user u/Affectionate_Lime880 from the US state of Tennessee shared an unusual sight that greeted her yesterday morning – she found an abandoned bobcat cub on the porch of her house.
In her post, she stated that the animal appeared suddenly, and what surprised her the most was its behavior. In contrast to the expected caution and wild nature, the little lynx was surprisingly calm and allowed her to approach it. “He sat next to me, let me pet him, even showed me his belly and started purring,” the user wrote.
Although she emphasized that she was aware that bobcats cannot be pets and that they belong in nature, the situation caught her off guard and she sought advice from the community: “What should I do?” Her post went viral and garnered 81,000 likes.
Contact the wildlife rescue center
Fortunately, social media users quickly stepped in to help, sharing phone numbers for local lynx rescue centers. Her mother then contacted wildlife rescue services, who requested additional information and photos.
While the user was writing the post, their response arrived. The experts confirmed that the cub’s behavior was very unusual for its age and size, and asked the family to provide the animal with comfortable accommodation until tomorrow, when the center’s staff will pick it up.
“I want to make it clear that this is not my pet and that it should never become someone’s pet. It is a wild animal and its place is in nature,” added the author of the post, emphasizing the importance of responsible behavior towards wild species.
