A family on TikTok shared a hilarious moment of introducing a new member, an adorable puppy, to a gorgeous Maine Coon cat who, to put it mildly, wasn’t overly thrilled about his arrival.
The video, posted on the @farmily.ties profile, shows the playful puppy trying to find his way around his new surroundings, while his cat Archie watches him closely. At one point, Archie, apparently losing his patience, suddenly pawed at the confused puppy. The pup’s reaction was so priceless that the video quickly went viral.
Why do cats sometimes paw without warning?
According to the Pets Care website, this behavior is part of a cat’s innate instincts. Cats use their paws to communicate with their environment, express discomfort, or simply attract attention.
In this particular case, it’s possible that Archie was reacting with his paw because the puppy was getting too close to his space, or he wanted to “warn” him who was in charge. Or, he might just have wanted to let him know that he was still in control of the house.
How to avoid situations like this among pets?
Experts recommend that owners pay attention to their cat’s body language to recognize signs of discomfort. It’s important to monitor the position of the tail, ears, pupils, and general posture. Changes in vocalizations can also be a warning signal.
