It’s believed that over time we are shaped by the individuals we associate with, and that’s proven true for a shelter cat who started acting like her Chihuahua brother. Their owner, Saige, shared the adorable video on TikTok six days ago, which quickly went viral.
The video shows Maude, a white cat, imitating Alfie, a long-haired Chihuahua, in every way. Maude follows Alfie, sticks out her tongue and pant like a dog, tries to eat dog treats, and even plays with him in a dog-like manner. Since Maude and Alfie are similar in size, it’s no surprise that the cat concluded that they are the same species.
Viral duo conquers the internet
The video clip has garnered over two million views and over three hundred thousand likes in just a few days. Maude originally arrived at the family as a kitten in a temporary shelter, where she was supposed to recover and wait for her forever home.
However, her owner, Saige, noticed the incredible bond she had developed with Alfie in such a short time and simply couldn’t give her up for adoption. Maude thus found her forever home.
Can cats and dogs be friends?
Although it is often believed that cats and dogs are natural enemies, the American Kennel Club (AKC) points out that this is not always the case, writes Newsweek . When introduced at an early age and taught how to communicate with each other, the two species can live in perfect harmony.
The key to success is proper familiarization, where it is important to ensure that both animals remain calm. AKC recommends rewarding positive interactions to reinforce such behavior and build long-term friendships.
