While Barny was peacefully basking in the sun in his enclosure, his owner tried to brush him. His response was a grumpy growl that, contrary to expectations, sounded surprisingly sweet. It seems that Barny just doesn’t like to be disturbed while sunbathing.
TikTok users were quick to poke fun at him. “Big difference between the picture and the sound,” one viewer commented. Many agreed that their Maine Coons had similar reactions. “Mine hates it even more. Brushing him is a two-person job and always ends up with sore hands,” wrote one owner, while another added, “My black Maine Coon would rather tear his face than let a brush touch him.”
How to make brushing stubborn cats easier?
The experts at Maine Street Coons recommend daily brushing as the best way to prevent tangles. “Start with a wide-toothed comb to work through the fur from the skin outward, then use a brush to remove loose hair. Always brush in the direction of hair growth,” they advise.
For stubborn knots, using a pet-safe detangling spray is recommended. Experts also suggest using calming pheromone sprays or treats during brushing, to help your cat relax and gradually get used to the routine.
Regardless of the method, it’s clear that brushing a Maine Coon can be a real challenge, especially if it’s a grumpy Barny, who would rather bask in the sun than cooperate with the brush.
