Rooster spotted near Zagreb market, illegal trade suspected

THE ASSOCIATION Animal Friends has issued an urgent appeal for help after an abandoned rooster was seen near Trešnjevački plač in Zagreb. According to information received by the association, the animal was last seen on the roof of a shed, in the immediate vicinity of the market. It had spent the entire day in the rain without shelter, and the situation is particularly worrying because it is assumed that the rooster was abandoned intentionally, probably by one of the traders involved in the illegal sale of animals in the area.

The association states that illegal animal trafficking in the area around Trešnjevački plač has been reported several times, both by citizens and by the association itself, but the problem has still not been resolved. This specific case is another indicator of the inhumane treatment of animals and the need for systematic control and permanent closure of illegal stands.

Citizens who spot a rooster are asked to immediately call 091 506 7905. If possible, it is recommended to try to catch it, for example with a box with holes or a transport box, and then contact the association.

“We thank everyone who has already shared the post and those who are getting involved in helping. The rooster needs a safe shelter, and we hope for a quick resolution to this situation,” the association said.
